SOC 270 Social Stratification 3 credits
This required course provides an introduction to the sociological study of stratification—a core concept and area of study in the discipline. Using a variety of theoretical perspectives and research findings, students will examine systems of stratification and patterns of inequality with an emphasis on the causes and consequences of their existence and persistence. We will examine the role of power and privilege in social life and study the nature and extent of class, gender, and racial/ethnic inequality in American society and across the globe.
