NSG 683 Acute Clinical Management of Complex Health Conditions in Adults and Older Adults I 3 credits
In this course, students will build upon the foundational knowledge and skills acquired in earlier assessment and management courses, focusing on the care of adults and older adults in acute care settings. Emphasis will be placed on developing advanced competencies in conducting rapid, complex assessments, diagnosing critical conditions, and implementing timely interventions for acutely ill patients. The course will prioritize patient-centered care, incorporating current treatment guidelines and evidence-based practices, including both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Additionally, care will be delivered with consideration of patients’ lived experiences and cultural backgrounds, in collaboration with an interprofessional team, to address social determinants of health. Students will take a more independent role in directing care and utilize teaching-coaching techniques to educate patients in the management of their conditions within the acute care environment.
