As majors in their fields, Misericordia’s secondary education majors become masters of the content they will teach who are effective teachers. Secondary Education majors are assigned two academic advisors to ensure that students are supported in both their content area and their education program. The TED advisor is responsible for advising related to Education courses, field/practicum experiences, and state certification requirements. The content area advisor is responsible for advising related to the University Core and content major requirements.
In addition to their core and major requirements, Secondary Education students complete a set of common foundational teacher education courses rooted in evidence-based practices that provide the knowledge and skills that are common to all education programs and a set of specialized secondary education courses that provide the knowledge and skills unique to teachers of learners in grades seven through twelve.
