ENG 217 Christianity and Literature 3 credits
This course surveys texts that exemplify and define the relationship between Christianity and literature over the course of the last two thousand years, the cultural influence and development of Christianity on literature, and how literature expresses major Christian themes: good and evil, life and death, forms of sacrifice, suffering, redemption, virtue, grace, etc. Authors may include: St. Augustine, St. Francis of Assisi, Dante, Julian of Norwich, John Donne, George Herbert, Gerard Manley Hopkins, G. K. Chesterton, C. S. lewis, J. R.R. Tolkien, Flannery O’Connor, Walker Percy.
