WRT 204 Public Speaking and Debate

Also offered as PHL 204: Public Speaking and Debate. This course trains students in the practices of public speaking and competitive debate. Topics may include policy and parliamentary debate tactics, the rhetoric and logic of effective argumentation, interpretive speaking performance, persuasive speech, and public speaking for social occasions. Students will be encouraged (though not required) to participate in competitive, inter-collegiate parliamentary debate.

The course can be taken unlimited times for credit by any undergraduate student. Up to 3 credits can be counted toward completion of either the English major/minor or Philosophy major/minor. Subsequent enrollment or enrollment by students who are not enrolled in the English or Philosophy majors or minors will have credits count toward that student’s free electives.
